Soap Ingredients List

All of our soaps are made using sodium hyroxide (lye).
Through the process of saponification, the lye undergoes a chemical change and is no longer caustic in the final product. Unless specified, soaps are made according to a 5-7% superfat recipe. Always test on a small area before use. If allergic reaction or skin irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with cool water. |

Ingredients and their uses
Harvesting Northern Bedstraw (Gallium Boreale) which has compounds in it that produce a vanilla scent. While drying bundles for future use, my whole house smelled amazingly fresh!

Alfalfa: Rich in antioxidants, with a high content of vitamins and minerals. The horses & Bison love to eat it! Great in tea and on skin!
Bison Tallow: Is made using the rendered suet (kidney fat) of our Bison. They are grass fed and naturally raised on our farm. Coconut Oil: Helps give the soap a nice lather. It is non-drying on skin and not heavy or greasy. Castor Oil: used sparingly. A very thick, heavy oil that helps produce amazing lather and moisturize skin. Castilleja: Also called Indian Paintbrush. I ethically harvest the flowers and dry them. Traditionally, Castilleja was used by Indigenous peoples as a hair wash. Castilleja contains high levels of silica which makes it good for hair and nail health. Chaga: Chaga is a medicinal fungus that grows on approximately 1 in 10,000 birch trees. I finally found some, after years of seraching, while I was fighting wildfires this spring, it was untouched by the flames. I harvested a small amount, as taking the entire fungus will often kill the host tree. Cinnamon: Found in most pantries! an excellent antibacterial with a smell we all love. |

Charcoal: Charcoal acts like a detoxifier to help pull impurities from skin
Goldenrod: Lots of people wrongly blame their summertime allergies on Goldenrod, when in fact the culprit may actually be ragweed. Goldenrod is an excellent pot herb, and has been used as a wound healer. Horsetail : Equisetum Arvense. High in silica, good for skin, hair and nail health. Peppermint: Some studies show that peppermint oil is as effective for hair growth as rogaine! plus this " hot" oil can have a cooling effect on skin. Poplar Buds: The resin collected from spring poplar buds is heavenly. It helps to protect the leaves from early insect attack before they unfurl. It is heavenly fragrant, nature's best perfume, along with having all kinds of antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. They also turn the soap into this beautiful rich amber colour! Red Clay: The clay I use is from the Mediterranean. While I strive to use only locally foraged ingredients wherever possible, finding natural substances that will add colour to soap can be challenging! Red clay is used for colour, to anchor fragrance and help combat oily skin. |
The light delicate fragrance of wild roses is amazing. After this, I began picking only one or two petals from each flower, leaving the reproductive parts behind so that the plant could be fertilized and go to seed. Part of my journey is to discover ways to ethically forage, taking only what I need or plan to use, while leaving enough behind for succession.

Usnea: a group of beard lichens with proven effectiveness against staph bacteria. can be used as emergency wound care or firestarter.
Wild Rose: Rosehips and petals are used. Rosehips have high levels of vitamin C, rosehip seed oil is very good for aging skin. The petals are so light and fragrant! |

Not-So-Plain-Jane: Bison tallow, tussah silk. Garnished with foraged wildflower mix: alfalfa, gallium, wild roses and harebells.
Balm of Caroline: Bison Tallow, Coconut oil, Cocoa butter & poplar bud resin. This rich amber colour comes solely from the poplar buds! This is an incredibly fragrant and long-lasting bar!
