Fluffalo Fiber Company
|
Our Bison Fibers are collected by hand during the spring season, as our animals begin to shed their winter down coats.
Each year the Bison grow an entirely new coat and the quality of the fleece does not deteriorate. Unlike shorn fleeces, the end of the hairs are not blunted, making this an excellent quality, renewable fiber source that you are sure to love! |
A favorite exotic fiber used by hand spinners, bison down is soft, warm and moisture-wicking, with an ultra-fine texture,
with a micron count similar to Cashmere. It is dehaired, washed and sorted by hand. Due to this labour intensive process, only a limited quantity is available per calendar year.
Wholesale lots and pricing available . Please use the contact form below to inquire.
We would like to send a huge Thankyou to Anne at A&B Fiberworks in Linden, AB for all of her support. This project would not have gotten off the ground without her! ❤️ We would also like to thank Adele Boucher of Peace River for her thirst for knowledge and passion for teaching, for sharing her experience with bison and bison down with us.

More on Bison "Fluff"
Bison are a double coated animal and actually have 5 different types of hair in their coats with micron sizes ranging from 20-96. They are more than capable of weathering our harsh Alberta winters, and can often be seen just lounging around when the temperature dips below -30, and their metabolism slows down. Unlike their bovine cousins, Bison can use their huge head and necks to dig through the snow to find the grass below. Ours are spoiled and enjoy a buffet of locally grown hay during winter months. Bison are also very athletic jumpers, adult males are able to clear a 5-6ft fence with ease when motivated. We find they are less likely to search for "greener pastures" if we keep them well fed and happy at home. |
